Week Three

NOTE:  So we can concentrate this week on getting the Ethos Story done, and getting a good start to the other two projects, I'm going to push back the first due date on the journal by one week, to 7/24.

7/14          Invention work on Ethos Paper: Loop Writing. Discussion of sample papers. Finished brief writing. Review of gender questions/brainstorming. WCH 154:  Work on draft of ethos story, Journal: Choose a reading from the journal page to do double-entry journals on.  HOMEWORK: Read Satrapi (in bound reading book).

7/15          Discussion of Satrapi/story structure.  Workshop group selection. WCH 154: Work on final draft, gender questions: Initial research.  HOMEWORK: Read Hirschberg.  Bring your ads again tomorrow.

7/16          Draft workshop. Discussion of Hirschberg. Here is a look at what a double-entry journal looks like, based on the beginning of Hirschberg and this sample ad. In class-reading: Types of Propaganda, Intensify/Downplay. WCH 154: Work on final draft, Journal: Choose a couple of reading from the journal page to do double-entry journals on.  HOMEWORK: Complete final draft of your ethos story. Bring in all the work you've done on your ethos story in a two-pocket folder:  include your final draft, workshop draft, discovery draft, workshop responses, and all of your invention work.

7/17          Grammar Error Logs. Preparation of final draft:  proofreading, reflective memoRemember:  Ad Analysis Template: You MUST USE THE READINGS TO ANALYZE THE AD.  WCH 154: Gender research.  HOMEWORK:  Watch The Persuaders, Sections 1 - 2; use this material, the Hirschberg, Scholes, and "Social Effects of Ads" reading, the ad questions, and the web page readings on the ads to write in your journal as many points as you can to discuss the rhetoric of your ad, as seen here.
