Tibbetts Family 1635 - 1954

The following links lead to sections in the genealogy "Tibbetts Family 1635 - 1954" prepared by May (Tibbetts) Jarvis in 1953. They are the result both of a raw scan of the book, in pdf format, unedited and bearing the dark marks produced by the curvature of the pages near the spine and at the other margin caused by empty space during the copy process, and editable .doc files compatible with MS Word and Word Perfect X7.

The .doc files will appear, generation by generation, slowly but surely and will allow searches by words and phrases as I'm able to get to them. This effort ought to be considered to be "work in progress." There are errors in the .doc files as the result of my hurried transcription. Should you wish to report an error, please email me at the address shown at the bottom of this page.

Finally, these files reside in a temporary home which may go away at any time, so if you are interested in my Great Aunt May's creative effort, download them and store them in a safe place. To download any file using Mozilla Firefox, right click on the link and left click on "Save link as" and then define the path. If you use Internet Explorer, right click on the link, left click on "save target as. . ."and then define the path and left click on "OK."

My hard copy of the genealogy, the book, has pages manually sequenced in ink from 1 to 303. The files following Generations 1-10 may appear in a different sequence than that which is presented in the book, but one can figure out where they would go in the book by arranging the sections by page number.

The copy of the genealogy which I scanned did not have any photos. As of this writing, I know the location of a copy which does have photos and I have every intention of scanning the photos in that copy at my earliest convenience. Watch this space!

Aunt May must have begun to realize that she had undertaken a herculean task which soon expanded in an unwieldy manner as she progressed, because one finds evidence of uncertainty about the placement of the descriptions of collateral branches. Moreover, there was some uncertainty about the transcription of old documents where words were abbreviated with superscripts (wch , "which", for example), or the format for pounds, shillings and pence. It is important, in any case, that the result of her research be made available so that it may be freely downloaded and changes effected to take advantage of present and future technological developments to bring some order to the confusion which can result in describing family lineages. This order will include the ease of searching on words and phrases, links to family names and in the not too distance future, DNA comparison and analysis.

This web page also includes two large files which were deposited in the public library of Fort Wayne, Indiana. They consist of both typewritten genealogies as well as notes assembled by Aunt May as a part of her research.

The files below may be downloaded using the method described above. The pdf files may be brought up on one's screen simply with a left click when the cursor is on the link. I'm not sure that the display option works on every computer, however.
