The MICROSOC Computer Assisted Testing Files

The following files are in the public domain and may be copied, printed and distributed without restriction.

The user guide in Word Perfect 5.1 format
The user guide in MS Word 6.0/7.0 for Windows format

The programs are written in Quick Basic 4.5 and stored in text mode. The user ought to read the manual above before trying the programs below. There is some chaining from one program to another which can go wrong unless things are configured correctly.

Converts a SOCRATES bank in old mainframe format to MICROSOC format.
Dumps a MICROSOC bank to a plain vanilla printer.
Creates an empty MICROSOC bank.
Sets up the initial window linking to all MICROSOC programs.
A text file which holds assignments of all variables. It can be created and modified under MICROSOC program control.
The test generation program.
A short text file written before versatile word processing programs were available. It is almost useless now.
MICROSOC scoring program.
MICROSOC item addition, item editing and item deletion program.
Initial linking program which loads all other programs.

The Chemistry Test Item bank. Please be forewarned that this bank has seen only a very slight improvement. Some of the units used in the questions date back to the 1930s. The questions have been drawn from old textbooks and donated by several different testing services. There are typographical errors.
