Frequently Asked Questions

Membership

1. What is Phi Kappa Phi?

Phi Kappa Phi is an academic honor society founded in 1897 whose chief purpose is to reward and recognize scholarly achievement in all majors and disciplines in the university.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline honor society. Standards for election are extremely high. Because Phi Kappa Phi is highly selective, membership is a stamp of excellence that is recognized by graduate and professional school admissions committees and employers alike.

At initiation, members receive gold keys and certificates of membership, but Phi Kappa Phi is much more than a line on a résumé. It is a more than 100-year-old honor society comprised of the best and brightest from all academic disciplines. It is a community of scholars who are leaving an enviable legacy for future generations.

2. How are members elected at the CSU Dominguez Hills chapter?

Membership in the CSUDH chapter is by invitation only and is based on three criteria: 1) superior scholastic achievement as measured by your cumulative earned GPA, 2) satisfactory progress toward your degree objective, and 3) a demonstrated concern for the promotion of excellence. Each year the CSUDH Chapter invites to Phi Kappa Phi membership those who are in the top 5 percent of their graduating class and certain highly qualified (top 7.5%) juniors.
