CHAPTER HISTORY
In the Fall of 2000, a group of four women set out to search for a sorority that would offer them the benefits that they were looking for. The options on campus were very limited and lacked those qualities that they felt were truly important such as cultural awareness, community involvement and unity through sisterhood. When these women came across Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. they discovered that the organization possessed all of these qualities and many more that would make it a great addition to Greek life on campus. It was then that the search ended and official contact was made in hopes of expanding and establishing the sorority at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

For more than a year, contact was maintained and the group of interested women grew considerably. Due to their persistence, they were given the opportunity to expand to California despite the distance due to the organization’s foundation on the east coast. Then, in the Summer of 2002, under the guidance of Barbara Escobio, H. Relampago from Pi Chapter, five women would begin the journey in search of the light. Only three of these women saw the light of Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc................

#1 Yanira Bernal ---- Hermana Considerada
#4 Jayne Roman ---- Hermana Melao
#5 Patricia Ayon ---- Hermana Talisman

With the crossing of “Unidas Encenderemos La Luz En El Oeste” on August 5, 2002, these women founded a colony of SIA at Cal State Dominguez Hills making it the first in California and on the west coast. The sorority went on to gain official recognition on campus on November 8, 2002. With these accomplishments, Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. would embark on a new endeavor to strengthen the Hermandad from coast to coast.
