Our sorority is dedicated to
educating the community about the many diverse Latino
cultures-our history, struggles and endeavors. We
hope to educate and unify the many diverse Latino
cultures as well as other ethnic groups by fostering
a sense of pride for our heritage, and in doing
so hope to abolish ignorance, prejudice, and racism
in the community. At the moment, Hermandad de Sigma
Iota Alpha, Inc. is a national organization composed
of 400+ Hermanas and 30 chapters in the states of
New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts,
New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and California.
Our chapters are composed of undergraduate, graduate
and professional women whom are dedicated to the
accomplishment of our goals.
1- To constantly strive towards
increased awareness of Latino cultures
2- To promote sisterhood and leadership
amongst ourselves
3- To serve as models of excellence
in academics & achievements among women
Our organization’s
most important commitments are providing service
to our community by participating in local, national
and international causes & educating all about
the diverse Latino cultures. We encourage all women,
whether they are in the Hermandad or not, to promote
a diverse cultural and social environment. Our endeavor
is to work as sisters united in our common goals;
however, we value personal identity and individualism
highly. Through the bonds of sisterhood, we develop
leadership, scholarship, sportsmanship and friendship.
